"Claiming a steak" Process Pics

The writer of this article tells a hilarious story about her misadventures travelling through Spain on a quest to dine in one of it's most infamous restaurants. The mix-up occurs when she books a table at a lesser restaurant of the same name. I really enjoyed working with the different layers in the illustration - the watercolour texture in the background, the neutral line work in the middle ground and the solid colours in the foreground.

Working on different variations of the concept I had come up with.

The pencil rough I sent to client. I do these on tracing paper as it's quicker to make changes.

I created this blobby splash effect by painting and splattering ink with a broad brush. I then re-adjusted the colour in Photoshop.

A number of photos from a Google image search were required for an accurate depiction of the Leon Cathedral.

The final illustration. I explored a different colour palette from my usual go-to tones, the bold red works well the more muted greens I think.
