HOWL-O-WEEN - Penguin
Written by Emma Bowd. Illustrated by Lara Porter Published by Penguin Random House Be bold! Be brave! And come and meet the ghosts and ghouls with furry feet . . . Who's the scariest beast on Spooky Street? Find out in this pawsome tale of frightfully good fun! It’s Howl-o-ween on Spooky Street and the children and the dogs dress up to go trick or treating. But will they be brave enough to visit the scary beast at number three? A rhyming tale celebrating Howl-o-ween, where Halloween is celebrated by dressing up dogs in spooky costumes and meeting all the neighbourhood pups. Illustrator notes: The illustrations were created using a combination of digital and traditional techniques. All the spreads were drawn on an iPad Pro in Procreate using watercolour digital brushes. To add extra depth and texture, backgrounds were painted by hand, then scanned and added to layers in various blending modes. Characters' Halloween dress ups were carefully considered to keep the story festive and inviting rather than scary. Colours were also chosen with care. I wanted to evoke the spirit of Halloween without being too frightening, so most of the action takes place during daylight hours and soft tones of purple are woven through certain scenes to hint at a little magic.
